Timeline of Seven-Vehicle Pile-Up Accident on JORR Toll Road, Triggered by Truck Brake Failure
Police have detailed the sequence of events in a seven-vehicle pile-up on the Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR) toll road at kilometre 30. The accident began when seven vehicles travelled from east to west.
“Traffic conditions were flowing smoothly in lane 2 when the seventh vehicle (truck) experienced complete brake failure, striking the sixth vehicle (Granmax),” stated AKBP Rieki Indra, Head of Traffic Law Enforcement at Jakarta Metro Police’s Traffic Directorate, on Tuesday (10 March 2026).
The Granmax subsequently lost control and collided with a Toyota Innova vehicle. The Granmax also struck a further truck in the sequence.
“The seventh vehicle (truck) then lost control, shifted to lane 1 and struck the second vehicle (Honda BRV) and the first vehicle (box truck) in additional collisions,” he said.
Rieki confirmed that evacuation operations had been completed at the time of the statement. Based on field analysis, officers concluded the accident was likely caused by the truck’s failure to maintain a safe distance and the brake failure.
The incident occurred at 3:44 p.m. local time. The seven vehicles involved in the collision comprised a box truck, Honda BRV, two diesel trucks, Toyota Innova, Granmax and a Fuso truck.
Two people sustained injuries as a result of the accident. The vehicles involved sustained severe damage.
“Two victims with minor injuries were taken to Pasar Rebo Hospital. Material losses involve severe damage to the BRV and Granmax vehicles,” stated AKBP Ojo Ruslani, Head of Legal Affairs and Law Enforcement at Jakarta Metro Police’s Traffic Directorate.
