The Kemayoran Police Sector Commander, Kompol Agung Ardiyansyah, reported that the fire was first reported at 21:10 Western Indonesia Time on Monday evening, 1 June 2026. The fire occurred in RT 02/RW 04 behind Jiung Market in the Kebon Kosong neighbourhood of Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.

According to initial witness accounts, the fire suddenly erupted from two residential houses at approximately 21:00 WIB, believed to have been caused by an electrical short circuit in a house belonging to a resident named Bapak Darmansyah. The fire spread rapidly and uncontrollably.

Several local residents attempted to extinguish the flames using three portable fire extinguishers from the RW 04 secretariat, but the fire continued to spread and intensify. The firefighting service received the initial alert at approximately 20:55 WIB, and firefighting operations commenced at 21:05 WIB. The fire was brought under control and extinguished at 04:15 WIB the following morning, representing a duration of approximately seven hours.

Three people suffered injuries as a result of the fire. Two victims were treated at Hermina Kemayoran Hospital, whilst one victim was referred to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital (RSCM).

The fire destroyed approximately 250 residential houses and affected 330 families. The government established an evacuation and relief coordination centre at Jusuf Hamka Field on Benyamin Suaeb Street. The Director General of Regional Administrative Development at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Safrizal ZA, stated that evacuation facilities have been prepared with support from various parties to assist those displaced by the disaster.
