Timeline of Events: Younger Sibling Strikes Elder Sibling with Hammer, Leading to Death in Kelapa Gading
A teenager, MAH (16), struck his older brother, MAR (21), on the head with a hammer, resulting in his death in Kelapa Gading Utara, Kelapa Gading District, North Jakarta. The incident was triggered by a personal issue.
The Head of the Child Protection and Women’s Protection Unit (PPA-PPO) of the North Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Kompol Ni Luh Sri Arsini, stated that the incident occurred on Tuesday (February 24th) at approximately 5:00 PM. Ni Luh mentioned that the two had previously harboured unresolved issues between them.
“There were actually some unresolved issues between the siblings. Communication was somewhat strained, and the younger sibling was rather introverted,” said Arsini on Thursday (February 26th, 2026).
It all began when the older brother placed his personal belongings in the younger brother’s room. The items placed were toiletries such as towels.
The older brother did not immediately move the items. Their mother reprimanded the victim for placing the items there, but the victim did not respond immediately, which annoyed the perpetrator.
“The older brother did not immediately move the items. When their mother reprimanded him, the older brother’s response was indifferent, which upset the younger sibling,” she explained.
The perpetrator then took a hammer from the kitchen and struck his older brother on the head while he was feeding the animals.
Psychological Evaluation to be Conducted
The investigation into this case is ongoing. The perpetrator will also undergo a psychological evaluation.
“A psychiatric evaluation, yes. It will be conducted at the hospital,” said Ni Luh Sri Arsini.
The psychological evaluation is planned to be conducted today. The family requested that it be done today because it was already late last night to conduct the examination.
“While in the process today, we will conduct the psychiatric evaluation. The family initially wanted it to be done last night, but they requested that it be done today because it was already late,” she said.
