Timeline: Man in South Tangerang Attacked and Stabbed After Rebuking Two Extortionist Thugs
SOUTH TANGERANG, KOMPAS.com — A man with the initials ES, aged 27, became a victim of mob assault and stabbing perpetrated by two thugs at Pasar Bukit, Serua, Ciputat, South Tangerang, on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
East Ciputat Police Chief Kompol Bambang Askar Sodiq stated that the incident occurred after the victim rebuked the two suspects, who were allegedly attempting to extort vendors selling at Pasar Bukit.
“He saw two perpetrators who were suspected of demanding money from traders,” Bambang said when contacted by Kompas.com on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
Upon witnessing this, the victim then rebuked both perpetrators to stop demanding money from the vendors. However, the reprimand was taken poorly by the two perpetrators, leading to a heated verbal dispute with the victim.
Afterwards, the victim left the location. However, the two perpetrators pursued the victim all the way to Jalan Maruga Raya, Kampung Maruga, Serua, Ciputat.
“After successfully intercepting the victim, the perpetrators then carried out a mob assault,” said Bambang.
During the mob attack, one of the perpetrators stabbed the victim with a knife in the right thigh, left calf, and left sole of the foot.
Local residents who witnessed the incident subsequently helped apprehend both perpetrators before handing them over to police.
Police officers who received the report immediately went to the scene and arrested the suspects with initials AS and MR.
“Both perpetrators were successfully secured at the scene of the incident and were immediately brought to East Ciputat Police Station to undergo further investigation and prosecution procedures,” he explained.
Currently, both perpetrators have been named as suspects and charged under Article 262, paragraph (2) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code regarding the criminal offence of mob violence.
Police are also continuing their search for evidence in the form of the sharp weapon used in the incident.
