Timeline: Man Found Dead Wrapped in a Sleeping Bag in West Jakarta
A 24-year-old man identified by the initials MF was found dead, wrapped in a sleeping bag, in a rented room in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta. His family had been unable to contact him before he was found.
West Jakarta Metro Police Chief Commissioner Nasriadi said the man was found at 10am on Thursday (8 October). A witness, Haidir, had gone to deliver food to the room after it was ordered by the victim’s sister, Fani.
“He was also asked to check on the victim. His family had been able to contact him in the days before, and he had complained of being ill, but they could not reach him that day. Fani was worried and wanted to check on his condition and whereabouts,” Nasriadi told reporters on Monday (12 October 2026).
When Haidir arrived, he asked the boarding-house caretaker, Nila, to take him to the victim’s room. There was no response when they knocked, and the door was locked from the inside.
“They tried to open it with a spare key, but could not because a key had been left in the lock on the inside. Concerned, and with the agreement of the caretaker and the victim’s sister, they forced the door open,” Nasriadi said.
Inside, they found the victim unconscious and wrapped in a sleeping bag. After receiving a report, police went to the scene to investigate.
“Once the door had been opened, the victim was found lying on his back, wrapped in black fabric, like a sleeping bag,” Nasriadi said.
