Police have arrested JMH, a man who claimed to be an official and assaulted a petrol station attendant in Cipinang, East Jakarta. JMH assaulted the attendant because he was refused service when attempting to purchase subsidised fuel, as the vehicle registration number on his car did not match the data in the subsidised fuel application.

The Head of Public Relations at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, explained that the assault occurred on Sunday (22 February) at around 10.10 pm in Cipinang, Pulogadung, East Jakarta. He said the incident began when a black Toyota Vellfire attempted to purchase Pertalite fuel.

“The petrol station attendant refused because the barcode scan did not match the vehicle registration number, so the purchase could not be completed according to regulations,” Budi told reporters on Tuesday (24 February 2026).

He explained that the refusal triggered the passenger’s anger. The perpetrator then got out of the car and physically assaulted several petrol station employees.

“Several employees were assaulted, including the attendant who tried to intervene,” Budi said.

As a result of the incident, one of the victims filed a report with the Pulogadung Police Station on Monday (23 February). The case was immediately handled by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Pulogadung Police Station.

Perpetrator Claimed to be an Official, Turns Out to be a Private Entrepreneur Budi said that the incident also went viral on social media. In the viral video, there was a narrative that the assault was carried out by someone claiming to be an official.

Ultimately, the Internal Affairs Division of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, together with members of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police and the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Pulogadung Police Station, conducted an investigation and clarification.

“As a result, the perpetrator was identified as JMH, and it was discovered that he was not a member of the police force. The vehicle registration number used on the vehicle was also not in accordance with its intended use,” said Budi.

On Tuesday (24 February), at around 4:00 pm, a joint team from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police and the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Pulogadung Police Station successfully apprehended the perpetrator. Budi said the perpetrator was apprehended in the Rawalumbu area, East Bekasi.

The perpetrator was then immediately taken to the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police for further questioning. During the questioning, it was found that the perpetrator was not a member of the police force or an official, but a private entrepreneur.

“The perpetrator is a private entrepreneur, not a member of the police,” said Budi.

On the other hand, Budi also assured that the handling of this case would be carried out professionally. He also urged the public to respond to information circulating on social media wisely and wait for official clarification from the authorities to avoid misunderstandings.

“We encourage the public to remain calm and not be influenced by unverified information. If you find similar incidents or acts of violence, please report them immediately through the Call Center 110 or the nearest police station. Every report will be followed up,” he concluded.
