Jakarta, KOMPAS.com — The Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) has reached an agreement with tile manufacturers from the Jatiwangi centre in West Java, setting the price of tiles at IDR 4,300 per piece up to the project location.

The agreement was reached during a tiling programme meeting attended by regional government and banking representatives.

Housing Minister Maruarar Sirait, also known as Ara, stated that the tiling programme forms part of efforts to improve the quality of people’s homes whilst strengthening the building materials industry based on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

“This programme is not charity. This is a quality and sustainability programme. MSMEs must move up the ladder, the industry must be strong, and people’s homes must not be hot. We want the multiplier effect to be felt,” said Ara, quoted on Friday (27 February 2026).

The tiling programme in West Java is linked to significant demand in the housing sector, particularly subsidised housing and the Self-Help Housing Stimulus Aid (BSPS) which require significant quantities of tiles.

Majalengka is projected to become one of the main national tile supply centres through synergy between the central government, regional government, banking, developers, and craftspeople.

The housing minister emphasised that the main challenge of the programme is maintaining quality and production capacity.

Tiles produced must meet minimum durability standards of 15 years, withstand heat and rain, and possess aesthetic value, including flat models for modern residential design requirements.

The regional government will facilitate the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) certification process for tile manufacturers.

The stages include applications, verification, and audit with support from the provincial government.

Regarding financing, banks have expressed readiness to provide support through the Housing People’s Business Credit (KUR) scheme.

This scheme is expected to strengthen the capital of craftspeople whilst ensuring production capacity can meet market demand.

With the price agreement and financing support, the tiling programme is expected to drive growth in the regional building materials industry whilst improving the quality of people’s housing.
