TikTok-Tokopedia Denies Mass Layoffs

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Representatives from the digital platform company TikTok, which has acquired the Tokopedia Group, have denied any mass termination of employment (PHK) of its workers in Indonesia. PT Tokopedia President Director Stephanie Susilo stated that the company is not conducting layoffs, but is instead carrying out internal restructuring or internal mobility for its employees. However, she has not yet detailed the number of workers affected. “There is no termination of employment at TikTok or Tokopedia Group,” Stephanie said during a press conference following a meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Ministry of Manpower at the parliamentary complex, Jakarta, Monday. “We are also currently recruiting for more than 100 positions in Indonesia,” she said. Previously, the Special Advisor to the President of the Republic of Indonesia for Manpower and Labour Welfare, Said Iqbal, stated that he would directly follow up on the issue of layoffs at Tokopedia and TikTok to obtain the facts before the government takes further steps. “We must not listen to only one side. The government must get a complete picture of what actually happened,” Said Iqbal said when confirmed in Jakarta, Saturday (4/7).
