TikTok Strengthens AI Ecosystem for User Protection
TikTok is stepping up efforts to create a more transparent, safe and responsible artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem through a number of new initiatives. The measures include strengthening AI literacy, improving AI-based spam content detection systems, and expanding cooperation with international organisations to enhance transparency around the use of AI technology on the platform.
TikTok stated that AI holds great potential for fostering creativity, helping users discover new interests and improving the overall experience on the platform. However, the use of the technology must also be balanced with adequate education and protection to ensure it is used responsibly.
STRENGTHENING DIGITAL LITERACY
As part of these efforts, TikTok has launched new educational materials on AI and expanded its investment in digital literacy programmes alongside experts. On the literacy front, TikTok has introduced a new in-app information centre providing users with practical guidance on recognising AI-generated content when searching for topics related to the technology.
The company continues to collaborate with various organisations and experts, including the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE), Henry Ajder, NoFiltr and the Raspberry Pi Foundation. Since the programme was launched in November 2025, the educational content produced has recorded more than 200 million views. TikTok said it has invested more than US$4 million to support the programme.
TACKLING SPAM CONTENT
Separately, TikTok is strengthening its measures against AI-based spam content, which is seen as reducing the visibility of creators’ authentic work. In the coming weeks, the company will test improvements to its detection systems targeting accounts that mass-upload low-quality AI content, particularly on sensitive topics such as politics, health and financial information.
Based on internal data, TikTok reported that it removed more than 86 million fake accounts in the first quarter of this year as part of efforts to maintain the platform’s integrity.
TRANSPARENCY AND INDUSTRY STANDARDS
To improve transparency, TikTok is reinforcing the implementation of AI-based content labelling technology. TikTok has now officially joined the Steering Committee of the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) to support the development of industry-wide AI transparency standards.
To date, the company said it has labelled more than three billion videos containing AI-generated content through a combination of C2PA’s Content Credentials technology, creator-labelling features and invisible watermarking systems.
USER CONTROL FEATURES
In addition to introducing creative features such as Smart Split and AI Outline, TikTok is also testing a “Manage Topics” feature. This allows users to set preferences for the amount of AI-generated content they wish to see in their feed.
TikTok emphasised that these updates represent a long-term commitment to ensuring that AI enhances creativity without compromising safety, transparency and user trust.
