TikTok Shop Faces Mounting Problems and Complaints, E-Commerce Bosses Summoned by Parliament
The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) will summon several e-commerce companies to resolve issues within the digital trade ecosystem, particularly those affecting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The summons for TikTok and Tokopedia specifically relates to complaints from hundreds of MSME players on the platforms. The parliamentary hearing will seek explanations and solutions regarding the freezing of merchant accounts.
“Today, we heard directly from MSME players. Moving forward, we will certainly invite TikTok, and perhaps Tokopian, so that these issues can be discussed thoroughly and not recur,” said the Deputy Chair of Commission VII of the DPR, Evita Nursanty, as quoted from the official DPR website on Friday (3/7/2026).
She explained that Commission VII aims to resolve the problems faced by MSMEs and to push for clearer regulations for digital platforms. Consequently, the DPR plans to summon other relevant parties, including Shopee, the Ministry of Communication and Digital, the Ministry of Trade, and the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU).
Regarding digital transactions, she added that the involvement of all stakeholders is necessary. “We want clear regulations for marketplaces and digital platforms. We must ensure that issues like this do not keep recurring and harming MSMEs,” she added.
Commission VII is set to listen to direct explanations from the accused parties, after which subsequent steps will be formulated. “We cannot only listen to one side. Since we have received complaints, we will certainly follow up by bringing in the accused parties so that this issue can reach a fair solution,” said Evita.
Commission VII member Novita Hardini harshly criticised the case of frozen balances for TikTok Shop sellers, viewing it as a reflection of weak state protection for MSMEs in the digital economy era.
This was stated by Novita during a Hearing (RDP) and Public Hearing (RDPU) of Commission VII of the DPR RI, alongside the Ministry of MSMEs and the Bekasi branch of the Indonesian Advocates Association (Peradi), which discussed the unilateral freezing of balances for online sellers in Senayan on Thursday (2/7/2026).
According to Novita, sales revenue is the lifeblood of MSME sustainability; therefore, the unilateral withholding of balances is not merely an administrative issue, but concerns the very survival of millions of small business owners.
“This case proves that the people are once again becoming victims of systemic failure. Sales funds are the breath of MSMEs. When they are frozen unilaterally, it is not just their businesses that are threatened, but also their families’ livelihoods,” she asserted.
