TikTok Deactivates 1.7 Million Child Accounts, Menkomdigi Urges Other Digital Platforms to Comply with PP Tunas
JAKARTA - The Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Menkomdigi), Meutya Hafid, revealed that the digital platform TikTok has deactivated 1.7 million child accounts as part of its compliance with Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection (PP Tunas).
She also reminded other digital platforms to comply with PP Tunas, which restricts social media for children under 16 years old.
“We urge platforms that have expressed their commitment to compliance not to stop at mere commitment, but to immediately report the concrete steps they have taken to the Indonesian public through the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs,” Meutya stated during a press conference at the Komdigi Office in Jakarta on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
This step is deemed important to ensure that the compliance evaluation process runs more quickly and measurably.
“So, those who haven’t yet, please provide your self-assessment soon so it doesn’t pile up at the end, allowing our team at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs to expedite the assessments,” Meutya added.
On the other hand, the government appreciates TikTok’s compliance with the social media restriction policy for children under PP Tunas.
“TikTok is the first to report the deactivation figures and the first to demonstrate that commitment is accompanied by concrete, transparent steps shared with the public through the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs,” Meutya said.
Previously reported, the government through the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs issued a new policy regarding social media restrictions for children under 16 years old.
The regulation is contained in Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Regulation No. 9 of 2026, which is a derivative of PP Tunas.
In the initial stage, access is restricted on eight platforms for children: YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bigo Live, and Roblox.
