TikTok and Disney Announce Strategic Content Partnership
Entertainment giant Walt Disney has announced a strategic partnership with social media platform TikTok. The collaboration will involve the integration of content on both platforms.
Specifically, TikTok creators will be able to use a variety of assets from Disney’s hundreds of films and television series, including brands like Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and FX, in their short-form videos. In return, curated videos from TikTok will appear on the Disney+ streaming service within a new tab, designed to attract younger audiences who typically consume vertical video on their mobile phones. This marks the first time TikTok videos will be featured on another platform.
Disney stated the partnership could help attract more viewers to its streaming service. A pilot programme is scheduled to launch in the United States in the coming months, with plans for expansion to other markets. According to TikTok data, users shared an average of 6.5 million film and TV-related posts daily last year. Asad Ayaz, Chief Marketing Officer of Disney, described the collaboration as creating a new bridge between the stories Disney tells and the creativity they inspire. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
