Tiger kills villager

BANDARLAMPUNG, Lampung: The badly mutilated body of a farmer
was found near a park with tiger footprints around it yesterday.
It is believed he was attacked and killed by a tiger.

The farmer, identified as Sumarno, lived in Tanjung Tirto
village. It is thought he was killed last week by a tiger from
the Way Kambas National Park, near the village.

Sumarno's body was found by residents and later the police and
the local subdistrict chief came to see it, Antara reported
yesterday.

Sumarno's relatives said that he, along with other villagers,
had gone to an area near the national park to collect grass for
his cattle.

The national park is home to protected species such as tigers,
elephants, Sumatran rhinoseri and birds. (rms)
