Tiger cub mauls child at zoo

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuter): A tiger cub, used by a Malaysian zoo
for photo sessions with visitors, mauled and seriously injured a
five-year old boy, the New Straits Times newspaper reported
yesterday.

The cub, which was kept on a leash, charged and attacked
Mohamad Nor Saiful Ramian on Wednesday, the newspaper said. Zoo
authorities later said the boy had been squatting too close to
the animal.

Mohamad, who was at the zoo with his parents and brother on
Malaysia's Independence Day holiday, was taken to hospital in a
zoo lorry. The tiger cub has since been caged.
