Tidal Flooding Inundates Tanjung Pasir in Tangerang, 521 Families Affected
Tidal flooding inundated the coastal area of Tanjung Pasir village, Teluknaga district, Tangerang regency, Banten, on Friday (20/2). Hundreds of families were affected as seawater surged into residential neighbourhoods.
The head of the Tangerang Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Achmad Taufik, said the tidal flooding had submerged the RW 003 area of Kampung Gaga in Tanjung Pasir village.
“A total of 521 families have been affected by the tidal flooding in Tanjung Pasir village,” Taufik said.
He disclosed that floodwater levels ranged between 30 and 40 centimetres. The water not only inundated local roads but also entered residents’ homes.
He explained that the tidal flooding was triggered by high tides along the northern coast of Tangerang, coinciding with heavy rainfall.
“The tidal water didn’t just flood the streets — it also entered residents’ homes,” he said.
Nevertheless, no residents have been evacuated. The majority chose to remain in their homes whilst waiting for the water to recede.
Taufik said his agency is currently preparing logistical assistance for affected residents.
“The current need is for logistics. We have directed the village government to come to the BPBD office,” he explained.
