JAKARTA – The surge in intercity bus ticket prices during the 2026 Eid holiday season has not deterred Revita, 28, from returning to her hometown of Palembang, South Sumatra.

This year holds special significance for her as it marks the first time she will be travelling home whilst carrying her eight-month-old infant.

Revita purchased her tickets days earlier and acknowledged receiving a steep price. However, she expressed no surprise at the increase, noting that such price hikes occur regularly during the Eid period.

Her baby, still only eight months old, does not yet require a separate ticket. Nevertheless, given the considerable inter-island distance involved, Revita and her husband must plan the journey with meticulous care.

She is preparing various infant necessities including nappies, formula, change of clothes, and other supplies to ensure her baby remains comfortable throughout the journey. The overland route to Palembang is estimated to take approximately 16 hours.

“There’s definitely a lot involved,” Revita explained. “We’re taking more equipment, it’s more complicated, and we need to prepare on the road to keep him from becoming fussy. The preparations are definitely extra.”

Revita expressed considerable enthusiasm about this journey, as the trip will bring new joy to her extended family.

“I’m happy because I want to see my parents, but it’s extra special this time bringing my first child,” she said.

This Eid occasion will also provide a golden opportunity for Revita to gather extended family members and strengthen kinship bonds.

“So I want to introduce the child to all the family, bringing the first grandchild from my parents’ perspective too – that’s what makes it special,” she concluded.
