TI chief Suharto set for new term

SEMARANG, Central Java: The Indonesian Tae kwon do Association (TI)'s Central Java chapter has thrown its support behind the reelection of chairman Suharto, citing his capability in accommodating various nationwide interests.

Suharto, a Marine lieutenant general, will conclude his term at the association's congress, to be held in the South Sumatra capital of Palembang this weekend.

TI Central Java chapter head Yahya Patu said that Suharto is expected to reform the sport's association and stop the use of foreign coaches.

"Domestic coaches will be able to understand our athletes better than foreign trainers," Yahya said on Saturday.

Responding to his nomination, Suharto, who was in Semarang to install new executives of the provincial tae kwon do body, said he was ready to run for a second term. -- JP
