JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The thug with initials DA (36), who went viral for smashing a bakso vendor’s bowl in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, had previously extorted a coffee shop owner. This was uncovered from resident reports and investigations by the Tanah Abang Police Sector. The perpetrator DA, along with his accomplices TDT (26) and OP (36), have been arrested by the police. Tanah Abang Police Chief AKBP Dhimas Prasetyo stated that the viral incident was reported on Thursday (9/4/2026). “The on-duty criminal investigation team received information from the public regarding alleged extortion with threats at Warung Kopi Berkah,” Dhimas said when confirmed by Kompas.com on Friday (10/4/2026). However, Dhimas did not specify the amount of money received from extorting the vendor. On the other hand, the police also identified the viral video showing the extortion perpetrator previously carrying out an extortion act by smashing the bakso vendor’s bowl. The reporter was a porridge vendor who had also been extorted. “The reporter was trading at the scene (under the Fachrudin JPO), then three perpetrators arrived asking for a security fee of Rp 300,000,” Dhimas explained. Dhimas continued that the police then took statements from the victim vendors and coordinated with the RW head. “All three are residents of Kampung Bali,” Dhimas said. After being arrested, the three perpetrators were taken to the Tanah Abang Police Sector. The police also seized a sharp weapon used to threaten the vendors. In addition, the police conducted urine tests on the perpetrators. The urine test results showed that all three tested positive for methamphetamine (sabu) consumption. “They are then being processed for drug abuse,” Dhimas added.
