Through the INA, the Indonesia-Netherlands-Belgium Association
in Jakarta, over 200 Dutch and Belgian companies in Indonesia
vowed to support the Acehnese victims in the most practical
sense.
INA and the company PA Asia are working hard on the
preparations of a so-called Community Home in Lampaya. Talks are
being held with the keucik, the local village head, about the
land on which the Community Home can be built. The keucik
emphasized the urgency of the Community Home, which will provide
basic medical and psychiatric care to the community and from
which also support will be given by experts of the Agriculture
University of Wageningen in the rehabilitation of agriculture in
the area.
The location currently envisaged is right next to the main
road around five kilometers going south from Banda Aceh. The
location is five hundred metres away from an area along the coast
which is totally devastated by the tsunami.
The Community Home, a light metal construction, is currently
being built outside of Indonesia. It will be shipped on 9 May and
is scheduled to arrive on 28 May on the location. Before that
time, a high quality foundation needs to be built, for which a
land survey is still necessary. It is a challenge to find the
services in Aceh that are needed to build the Home, but with a
lot of support from Dutch and Indonesian companies, good progress
is being made.
Companies that have provided great support are: ABN Amro Bank,
Unilever, Phillips, DSM, P&O Nedlloyd, Propan Raya, Royal
Haskoning, Holland Colours Asia and the Rabobank Hans Winkelmolen
fund.
