Through the Bakaba Tradition, Solok City Government Seeks to Strengthen Cultural Preservation

Solok City Government, West Sumatra, is strengthening the preservation of Minangkabau arts and culture through a workshop on physical training and acting as part of the basic training for Minangkabau performing arts, ‘Baka dan Tutua Bakaba (tutur berkabar)’. The Deputy Mayor of Solok, Suryadi Nurdal, in Solok, on Friday, praised the Zona Cakrawala Solok Foundation for taking the initiative to carry out this positive activity. According to him, the workshop is not only a space for learning performing arts, but also a concrete step in preserving and revitalising Minangkabau cultural heritage, particularly Bakaba (berkabar) and Tutua Bakaba (tutur berkabar).
On behalf of the Solok City Government, we appreciate this activity. Revitalising culture through involving the younger generation is an important and strategic step amidst the rapid development of the times and the accelerating tide of modernisation,” said Suryadi.
Suryadi also said he was proud to see the enthusiasm of Solok’s younger generation who show concern for the region’s arts and culture. He stated that the spirit must be nurtured so that Minangkabau culture is not just a story of the past, but remains alive, evolving, and able to transform into performances that are creative and relevant to the times.

In addition, he invited all participants to make the most of the opportunity to learn, discuss, and glean experiences from the speakers and mentors present.
The Solok City Government, he continued, will continue to support various positive activities aimed at preserving local culture, while also building the creativity of the younger generation.
