Three Waste-to-Energy Plants Designated as National Strategic Projects

The Indonesian government has designated three Waste-to-Energy Processing Facilities as National Strategic Projects. PT Danantara Investment Management Chief Executive Officer Pandu Patria Sjahrir stated that the designation marks a significant moment in building the foundation for the nation’s waste processing industry. “The designation of the first wave of National Strategic Projects in three locations demonstrates the government’s commitment to delivering an integrated solution to address the waste crisis,” he said in a written statement on Wednesday, 10 June 2026. The designation refers to Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Regulation Number 16 of 2025, which includes the Integrated Waste Management Programme in the list of National Strategic Projects, alongside Presidential Regulation Number 35 of 2018 and Presidential Regulation Number 109 of 2025. Pandu explained that PT Danantara Investment Management is assisting in the realisation of the waste-to-energy ecosystem as a long-term solution to Indonesia’s waste management challenges. Implementation is being carried out through PT Daya Energi Bersih Nusantara, a subsidiary of PT Danantara Investment Management, which is part of the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Board. “This initiative includes improvements to the waste management system, reducing dependency on final processing sites, and optimising the utilisation of waste into energy,” he stated. The first wave of waste-to-energy projects is located in Bekasi, Bogor Raya, and Denpasar Raya, managed by consortium companies. The project in Bekasi is managed by PT Wangneng Bekasi Environment Nusantara, in Bogor Raya by PT Welming Nusantara Bogor New Energy, and in Denpasar Raya by PT Welming Nusantara Bali New Energy. PT Daya Energi Bersih Nusantara Chief Executive Officer Fadli Rahman stated that the National Strategic Project designation confirms that waste management through waste-to-energy facilities has become a matter of strategic national interest, with the three projects forming the initial foundation for developing a nationwide ecosystem. “For our company, this status not only accelerates realisation at the three initial locations but also serves as an important foothold for developing facilities in subsequent locations,” he said.
