Three villages in Kudus selected for national library transformation programme
Kudus (ANTARA) - Three villages in Kudus Regency, Central Java, have been granted the Library Transformation Programme Based on Social Inclusion (TPBIS), which is a priority programme of the National Library of Indonesia (Perpusnas).
“This programme aims to transform the function of village libraries into centres for learning, creativity, and community empowerment,” said the Head of the Kudus Regional Archives and Library Service, Mutrikah, in Kudus on Tuesday.
She stated that while the department initially proposed four villages for the TPBIS programme, only three villages were approved as recipients for the 2026 programme cycle.
The three selected villages are Mijen, Gondoharum, and Gondangmanis.
According to Mutrikah, several requirements must be met by villages to qualify for the TPBIS programme. These include possessing a formal decree (SK) for the establishment of the village library, a library profile, and documentation of the library building along with its supporting facilities and infrastructure.
Furthermore, villages applying for the programme receive assistance, socialisation, and direct technical guidance from the National Library as part of the selection and implementation process.
Through the TPBIS programme, village libraries are expected to evolve beyond mere reading spaces, becoming hubs for community empowerment through various skill-based training sessions designed to improve local welfare.
Mutrikah explained that the programme’s implementation has commenced with socialisation activities for library managers in the three recipient villages, followed by technical guidance which was most recently conducted in June 2026. The next stage involves implementation mentoring conducted via WhatsApp groups.
During this process, library managers are required to routinely input programme achievements—ranging from visitor numbers and community engagement to various activities aimed at revitalising village libraries—into the management information system provided by the National Library.
With the addition of these three villages in 2026, the total number of villages in Kudus Regency that have received the TPBIS programme has now reached 19.
Mutrikah added that all recipient villages are required to report activity progress through the provided system to ensure that programme implementation can be continuously monitored and evaluated.
