Three victims of job scam in Pasar Minggu have received refunds
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police have stated that three victims who previously reported issues related to a job vacancy at Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, have received refunds from the company that offered the employment.
“As for the victims who have been compensated, there are three individuals. They are identified by the initials RM, a woman EM, and a woman DB,” said Pasar Minggu Police Chief Kompol Theodorus to journalists in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He said the three victims — RM, EM, and DB — received refunds of varying amounts.
According to him, Pasar Minggu Police Station has not yet received an official police report (LP) regarding the alleged job recruitment scam, as the victims only requested the return of the money they had handed over.
“Because the victims here only asked for their money to be returned. Given that the case went viral on social media, we took the initiative to act as an intermediary between the victims and potential victims so they could meet with the company,” said Theodorus.
The money had previously been requested by the company as a registration fee or administrative charge in the labour placement process.
“Asking for money upfront was merely for registration purposes. Registration in the sense of a service,” explained Theodorus.
He also confirmed that the police had examined the company’s legality, including its Business Identification Number (NIB) and company permits.
“As for the company, we checked everything — the NIB, its business licence, all of it is legal and registered, and the company has in fact placed workers on several occasions,” said Theodorus.
In addition to the three victims, the police also received visits from three other individuals wishing to coordinate with the company. The police will facilitate communication between the job seekers and the company.
The police also stated that the company has been cooperative and is ready to be contacted to resolve the issues faced by the prospective workers.
