Three Vessels Destroyed in Muara Angke Fire, Losses Estimated at Rp1.5 Billion

The North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) has estimated that losses from a fire involving three vessels at Muara Angke Pier, Pluit, North Jakarta, on Sunday morning reached Rp1.5 billion. Gatot Sulaeman, Head of Operations for North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Gulkarmat, confirmed that the three burnt vessels belonged to H. Samang. The fire consumed an area of 343 square metres, with each vessel measuring approximately 114 square metres. “The loss from the fire on the three vessels owned by H. Samang is estimated at around Rp1.5 billion,” Gatot stated in Jakarta on Sunday. Based on preliminary investigations, the fire is strongly suspected to have been triggered by an electrical short circuit. Eyewitnesses at the scene reported seeing smoke first emerging from one of the vessels that was undergoing repairs or docking. Residents attempted to provide initial assistance, but the fire quickly grew. Gulkarmat subsequently deployed at least 65 personnel and 12 fire engines to tame the blaze that rose high in the pier area. The firefighting operation lasted approximately three hours. Officers began localising the fire at 10.08 WIB, and after intensive efforts, the fire was only fully confirmed extinguished at 11.52 WIB. As of now, officers are still ensuring the area is completely safe. There have been no reports of casualties in the incident that completely destroyed the three vessels.
