Three Unlicensed Companies in Teluknaga Sealed for Polluting Cisadane River

The Banten Environment and Forestry Service (DLHK) has sealed three companies proven to have polluted the Cisadane River in Tangerang, causing the water to turn black. In addition to contaminating the environment, the three companies were found to be operating without permits.

Head of the Banten DLHK, Wawan Gunawan, stated that the unannounced inspection was carried out under the direct instruction of Banten Governor Andra Soni. Officers were deployed to the location in Kampung Melayu Barat Village, Teluknaga District, on Monday (20/7).

“Based on initial monitoring in the field, the change in colour and the pungent odour are strongly suspected to originate from industrial waste discharged into the river stream,” Wawan said on Tuesday (21/7/2026).

During the inspection, three companies were found to have deliberately discharged waste into the river. The businesses are engaged in jeans dyeing and washing, plastic recycling, and aluminium processing.

“All of the sealed companies do not possess operational permits. During the sealing period, the companies are prohibited from conducting any activities until all permits are fulfilled,” Wawan stressed.

He added that the Banten Provincial Government would not hesitate to take legal action if the business owners defied the order and continued to operate illegally.

“If they remain defiant or operate without a permit, legal action will be taken in accordance with applicable regulations,” he said.

Previously, Banten Governor Andra Soni revealed the discovery of suspected pollution in the Cisadane River in the Pakuhaji and Teluknaga areas of Tangerang Regency. He noted there were strong indications that industrial activity had caused the river water to turn pitch black.

Andra immediately instructed the Banten DLHK to follow up on the matter. Based on field investigations, the black water was traced back to the outlet of the Kali Sabi channel in Kampung Bayur, Periuk Jaya Village, Periuk District, Tangerang City.

“The Banten DLHK has conducted a search and managed to find the source point that caused the Cisadane River to turn black,” Andra Soni stated on Monday (20/7).
