Three-unit rental house fire in Pulogadung suspected to be caused by gas cylinder leak

A three-unit rental house on Jalan Pisangan Lama, RT 005 RW 02, Pisangan Timur, Kecamatan Pulo Gadung, East Jakarta, caught fire on Saturday afternoon, 7 March 2026. Abdul Wahid, Head of the Operational Section of the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat Jakarta Timur), said the fire is suspected to have been caused by a gas leak while one of the residents was cooking.

‘The suspected cause is a gas leak. The sequence was: the resident was cooking lontong when suddenly the fire spread and spread to surrounding areas, causing the fire to rapidly engulf the area,’ Wahid said in a statement.

‘After receiving the report at 13:36 WIB, our first unit promptly headed to the scene at 13:45 WIB. Responders arrived at the origin of the fire at 13:46 WIB,’ he added.

Sudin Gulkarmat Jakarta Timur deployed a total of nine fire engines with 45 personnel to douse the blaze. Firefighters managed to localise the fire seven minutes after arriving on site.

‘The fire was localised at 13:53 WIB. Cooling operations began at 14:05 WIB to ensure no hotspots remained. The firefighting operation was fully completed at 14:20 WIB,’ Wahid stated.

‘Regarding material losses, investigations are still ongoing. Fortunately, there were no casualties, Wahid said.’
