The deaths of TNI soldiers following an attack by Zionist Israel while on duty safeguarding peace in southern Lebanon as part of United Nations (UN) forces have been condemned.

Member of DPR RI Commission I from the PKS Faction, Mahfudz Abdurrahman, emphasised that this incident represents a clear and serious violation of international law by Israel that cannot be tolerated.

“This is not a wartime accident. This is an unjustifiable action under any circumstances. An attack on UN peacekeeping forces is a grave breach of international humanitarian law and reflects a total disregard for global norms,” Mahfudz stated in a press release on Tuesday (30/3).

He assessed that Israel’s military actions in the Lebanon border area have exceeded limits and demonstrate an increasingly brutal pattern of aggression, without regard for the safety of parties that should be protected, including peacekeeping forces.

“Israel’s military aggression in the area is becoming increasingly uncontrolled and shows indifference to international law. This attack proves that there is no longer any security guarantee, even for forces carrying an official UN mandate,” he continued.

Mahfudz also stressed that the attack on UNIFIL personnel poses a direct threat to the credibility and legitimacy of the world’s peacekeeping mission. He called for a firm response, not just symbolic condemnation.

“If attacks on UN forces are allowed without consequences, the international community is permitting the collapse of the global protection system. This is a test for the UN and the entire international community: whether international law is still respected or not,” he said.

He then urged the UN to immediately conduct an independent, transparent, and uncompromising investigation, and to ensure clear accountability.

Mahfudz also encouraged stronger and more progressive diplomatic steps from Indonesia, including raising the issue in strategic international forums and building global pressure.

“Indonesia must not take a lukewarm stance. We must take a leading role in fighting for justice, strengthening diplomatic pressure, and ensuring that every sacrifice of our soldiers is honoured with full accountability,” he said.

RI Urged to Criticise Israel at BoP

In agreement, Member of Commission I of the DPR, Sarifah Ainun Jariyah, called on the government to immediately press Israel to take responsibility for their attack that killed TNI soldiers in Lebanon.

According to Sarifah, this demand can be made by Indonesia through the Board of Peace (BoP), in which Israel is a participant. She assessed that the attack cannot be taken lightly and must be responded to seriously.

“Diplomatic steps can be taken through various channels, including through the BoP which includes Israel,” Sarifah said when contacted on Tuesday (31/3).

On the other hand, the PDIP politician also called on the government to evaluate plans to send troops to other conflict areas. According to her, the Israeli attack incident on UNIFIL must be a serious consideration.

She even urged the government and TNI to cancel plans to send troops to Gaza. Sarifah assessed that there is no security guarantee from any party because Israel has violated international law.

“There is no security guarantee from any party because Israel itself has proven not to adhere to international rules,” she said.

Sarifah admitted that she had previously warned that Lebanon is a vulnerable area. In November 2024, she reminded TNI to pay serious attention to the protection of soldiers sent there.

Not long ago, she also questioned the government’s decision to maintain troops in Lebanon, even though several countries have withdrawn their contingents.

“At a time when several other troop-contributing countries are beginning to withdraw their contingents due to threats of irrational Israeli air and artillery attacks.

According to Sarifah, Israel’s attack on UNIFIL shows non-compliance with international law. Israel, described as terrorists, no longer respects UNIFIL, which is clearly a UN asset protected by international law, and therefore the government is assessed to need to respond seriously to the incident.

“I strongly condemn the Israeli artillery attack whose impact directly hit the operational zone of UN peacekeeping forces,” she said.

Following the attack that killed Praka Farizal Romadhon, now two more TNI soldiers have been confirmed dead due to the increasing intensity of fighting in Lebanon. Thus, a total of three TNI soldiers have been killed as a result of Zionist Israel.

Karo Infohan Setjen Kemhan Brigjen Rico Ricardo Sirait explained that in the incident, two TNI soldiers were reported to have fallen, while two other soldiers suffered serious injuries.
