REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TEL AVIV – Two TNI soldiers who were part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were killed while on duty on Monday (30/3/2026). UNIFIL, as reported by the Times of Israel, stated that the two TNI soldiers were killed “when an explosion of unknown origin destroyed their vehicle.” Two peacekeeping soldiers were injured, one of them seriously. In the south, the Lebanese Armed Forces said that an Israeli attack killed one of their soldiers, while the IDF announced that three Hezbollah leaders were killed in an airstrike on the southern outskirts of Beirut. Lebanon has been drawn into the Middle East war as Hezbollah fired a series of rockets into Israel on 2 March in retaliation for the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Israel responded with airstrikes in Lebanon and ground operations in the south. UNIFIL said they are conducting an investigation into the Monday incident, which occurred a day after one TNI soldier was killed and three other peacekeepers were injured by a projectile that exploded near the UNIFIL headquarters. The IDF on Tuesday (31/3/2026) said they are also conducting an investigation into the two incidents “in order to clarify the situation and determine whether the incidents resulted from Hezbollah activity or IDF activity.” UN Deputy Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, strongly condemned “this unacceptable incident,” adding that “all actions that endanger peacekeeping forces must be stopped.” A permanent member of the UN Security Council, France, also urged a meeting to discuss this incident, while Spain also joined in the condemnation.
