The Indonesian government has conveyed deep condolences over the deaths of three TNI soldiers who were carrying out the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission in Lebanon. The statement was delivered by Minister Secretary of State Prasetyo Hadi.

“On behalf of the President, the government extends its deepest condolences over the deaths of three TNI soldiers who were undertaking duties as peacekeeping forces in Lebanon,” Prasetyo said in a written statement on Tuesday (31/3).

Prasetyo emphasised the government’s concern over the incident and described the event as a tragedy that should not have occurred. The government is urging a thorough and transparent investigation.

“The government deeply regrets this incident and has requested that the relevant authorities immediately conduct a comprehensive investigation,” he stressed.

Previously, the Ministry of Defence (Kemhan) reported that two TNI soldiers died in an incident while carrying out a humanitarian mission in Lebanon on Monday (30/3). With the latest developments, the number of fatalities has increased to three.

“In that incident, two TNI soldiers were reported dead, while two others sustained serious injuries. The injured soldiers are currently receiving intensive treatment at a medical facility in Beirut,” said the Head of the Defence Information Bureau (Karo Infohan) of the Kemhan Secretariat General, Brigadier General TNI Rico Ricardo Sirait.

The Indonesian government strongly condemns the consecutive attacks that killed two TNI soldiers in Lebanon. They were serving under the UNIFIL mission. The Indonesian government is urging an investigation.

The TNI has confirmed that two UNIFIL PBB peacekeeping soldiers died in an explosion incident in southern Lebanon, namely Captain Inf Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Staff Sergeant Muhammad Nur Ichwan.
