Three TNI Personnel Fall in Lebanon, Indonesia Condemns Israeli Attack and Demands UN Action
Indonesia has issued a strong condemnation and demanded an international investigation after three TNI personnel serving with the UNIFIL peacekeeping force were killed in an Israeli attack in southern Lebanon, while also calling for decisive action from the United Nations Security Council.
In a statement at the UN Security Council forum, Indonesia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Umar Hadi, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the Indonesian personnel.
“I am certain that this grief, anger, and frustration is also widely felt by the global community. I am moved by the outpouring of condolences, support, and solidarity from council members and the broader international community,” he said on Tuesday (31/3/2026) local time.
Umar Hadi also mentioned the names of the three fallen TNI personnel as a mark of respect in the forum, namely Major Infantry Zulmi Aditya Iscandar (33), Sergeant First Class Muhammad Nurkwan (25), and Leading Soldier Farahizal Ramadan (27).
He revealed that Leading Corporal Fahrial lost his life while carrying out duties at our post in Ashit Aluzer. Meanwhile, Major Zulmi and Sergeant First Class Muhammad lost their lives in an attack on their convoy while providing logistical support in Bani Hayad.
“We cannot accept the killing of these peacekeepers,” he emphasised.
Meanwhile, the Israeli attack also injured five other peacekeepers, namely Captain Sultan Wiran Molana, Corporal Rico Praudia, Corporal Arif Kawan, Corporal Bayou Prakoso, and Soldier Denny Rianto.
He urged all relevant parties to ensure the swift, safe, and dignified repatriation of the remains of the three deceased personnel, and requested the best medical treatment and comprehensive care for the five injured peacekeepers to ensure their full and rapid recovery.
Umar Hadi also stressed that this incident was triggered by the ongoing escalation of conflict driven by Israeli actions in Lebanon. Indonesia expressed its solidarity with the government and people of Lebanon.
“Indonesia strongly condemns the Israeli attack in southern Lebanon, which is a serious violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he stated.
He assessed that these repeated attacks are not mere incidents, but deliberate assaults aimed at weakening UNIFIL and obstructing its ability to fulfil the mandate of Resolution 1701. These attacks also pose a direct threat to international peace and security and may constitute war crimes under international law.
“Allow me to emphasise, we demand an investigation by the United Nations, not excuses from Israel. We demand that the Security Council follow the progress of the investigation and promptly follow up on its results. We demand that the perpetrators be held legally accountable,” said Umar Hadi.
According to him, impunity must not become the standard, and attacks on peacekeepers must not recur or be tolerated.
Indonesia also demanded firm assurances from all involved parties, including Israel, to comply with their obligations under international law to immediately cease attacks and aggressive behaviour that endangers UN personnel and property, and to refrain from any actions that could further escalate hostilities.
“The safety and security of peacekeepers must remain our top priority. Amid rising hostilities, the council and the Secretary-General must promptly implement emergency measures to ensure full protection for UNIFIL personnel and assets,” he said.
“The Security Council must take firm action to prevent hostilities and attacks on peacekeepers in the future,” he added.
