Three Teenage Girls Killed by Train While Taking Selfies on Tracks in Batang
Three teenage girls were killed after being struck by a train while playing on the railway tracks between Batang Station and Pekalongan Station in Central Java.
PT KAI Daop 4 Semarang Public Relations Manager Luqman Arif expressed condolences and concern over the incident.
“KAI Daop 4 Semarang is deeply saddened and regrets this incident,” Luqman said on Sunday (22/2/2026).
The victims have been identified as Anggita Permadani (16), Adita Fadhiratul Jannah (15), and Iswatik Sawita (15). The incident occurred on Saturday (21/2) at 06.53 Western Indonesian Time.
KAI Daop 4 Semarang urged the public not to engage in any activities on railway tracks, in accordance with Article 181 paragraph (1) of Law No. 23 of 2007 on Railways.
Meanwhile, Ramelan, a crossing guard stationed near GOR Sarengat in Batang, said he learned of the victims after receiving word from officers when the train was at Dekoro Post in Pekalongan City. He said the victims were three students who had been loitering near the tracks.
“It seems they were taking selfies but did not notice the train coming from the west heading east — the Argo Merbabu,” he said.
Contacted separately, Batang Police Criminal Investigation Unit Chief Inspector Daryono confirmed that the three teenagers were killed after being hit by the train. “It is true that three children have died. We extend our condolences, and I specifically urge the public, especially parents, to provide closer supervision of their children,” Daryono said.
