The districts and municipality of Tasikmalaya, West Java, were rocked by a spate of desperate acts in which residents took their own lives. Within a single day on Thursday (4/6/2026), officers evacuated three male bodies from different locations with different backgrounds. Several cases are suspected to be linked to depression resulting from chronic illness.

The first evacuation was carried out by a joint SAR team consisting of the military, police, Basarnas, the regional disaster management agency, state railway operator PT KAI, and local residents at a railway crossing in Binuang Hamlet, Pasirhuni Village, Ciawi Sub-district. A young man with the initials AF, 23, a resident of Sukasetia Village, Cisayong Sub-district, was found after taking his own life by residents at 7:00 a.m. local time.

Tawang Police Chief, First Inspector Sumarso, explained that the body of AS (42) was first discovered by a resident named Ecin (70) while fetching water. “The witness saw an object resembling hair floating. The victim was known to have suffered from an illness for 25 years that never healed,” Sumarso said.

A similar account was reported by Mangkubumi Police Chief, First Inspector Ipan Faisal, regarding the discovery of HR (54). The victim was found by his wife, Cicih (60), already deceased. According to family statements, HR suffered from chronic heart disease and a stomach condition.

“The treatments he underwent never yielded results. The family has stated they have accepted this incident as fate,” Ipan added.
