Three Suspects in Probolinggo Bondet Attack Are Minors

Three of the five perpetrators who threw a bondet (makeshift fish bomb) in the Malioboro area of Mayangan, Jalan Ikan Tenggiri, Probolinggo City, East Java, are still minors. The Probolinggo City Police have arrested the suspects, the youngest of whom is 14 years old. “We have arrested five perpetrators, three of whom are still classified as children in conflict with the law,” said Probolinggo City Police Chief AKBP Rico Yumasri in Probolinggo on Wednesday (22/7). The suspects involved in the bondet throwing are AK, 18, MA, 19, RF, 15, KV, 16, and FB, 14. The incident occurred on Sunday (19/7) at 00.30 WIB. A young man was injured in the thigh while playing football when the bondet exploded. Rico explained that the perpetrators had gathered at a chicken slaughterhouse warehouse used as a hangout in Sumbertaman Village, Wonoasih District. After consuming alcohol, they rode a motorcycle and spotted a group of youths playing football. Suspect AK then threw the bondet at the group before fleeing. Police arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation and gather witness statements. In addition to arresting the suspects, police seized four sickles, one bondet, raw materials for making bondet, and a motorcycle. The motive was an act of revenge against another group, but the attack was misdirected. The bondet thrown by the suspects hit a group that was not their intended target. Suspect AK is charged under Articles 306, 307, and 308 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison. Suspect MA, RF, and KV are charged under Article 307 paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 2023 with a maximum penalty of 7 years in prison, while suspect FB is charged under Article 306 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the possession and manufacture of explosives, which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.
