Three Suspects Arrested for Fatal Assault in Menteng

Police have arrested three perpetrators of an assault that killed a resident with the initials K (23) during a clash on Jalan Tambak, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (26/7) morning.

Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Reynold E.P Hutagalung, said the three suspects involved in the assault bore the initials S, T and U.

“Three residents involved in carrying out the assault, namely S, T and U, have now been secured at the Menteng Sector Police station,” he told reporters.

He explained that the three are currently being intensively questioned by investigators to establish the origins of the incident. Reynold said that during the incident, the victim K was evacuated along with another victim, DS, to RSCM hospital but could not be saved.

Reynold added that investigators are also examining parties suspected of involvement in vandalising an MSME street vendor’s cart and the alleged beating of a resident, which sparked the initial dispute.

Beyond the three individuals, he said, police have also questioned 15 others to determine each person’s role in the two separate incidents.

“For the incident as a whole, we are conducting intensive questioning of approximately 15 people. However, for clustering the incidents, we treat them separately,” he said.

“So the incident in Matraman, Matraman Dalam, and the incident on Jalan Tambak are being handled separately. Whoever is a victim or suspected as a perpetrator must certainly be held accountable for their actions,” he added.

Earlier, a clash broke out in the Jalan Tambak area of Menteng. Police said the trouble began as a dispute near a nasi uduk food cart in Matraman Dalam, which then escalated into mutual attacks that left one person dead.
