Three Steps by Ministry of Religious Affairs on Sexual Violence at Pati Pesantren

The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag), through the Directorate of Pesantren under the Directorate General of Islamic Education, has taken firm steps regarding the case of a kiai committing sexual violence at a pesantren in Pati, Central Java. There are three steps taken in relation to this case. Director of Diniyah and Pesantren Education Basnang Said detailed that the first step is Kemenag temporarily halting the acceptance of new students at the pesantren. Second, immediately deactivating the perpetrator as an educator/caregiver at the pesantren. “Third, we have asked the Kemenag Regional Office and Pati Regency to provide recommendations for revoking the pesantren’s permit,” said Basnang in a brief message to Republika on Monday (4/5/2026).
