Three states to sign anti-terror pact

JAKARTA: To formalize mutual concern about the increasing threat of international terrorism, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines are expected to sign an anti-terrorism pact on May. 7 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hassan Wirayuda said on Wednesday.

Hassan said the pact, which is to be signed by the foreign ministers of the respective countries, should allow for the countries to engage in cross-border operations in their war against terrorism.

"This is part of efforts to strengthen the legal framework in our cooperation to fight terrorism," he said, adding that Thailand may join the pact later.

He said that the content of the pact would center on the exchange of intelligence information and cross-border operations. -- JP
