Deputy Chairman of House Commission I, Dave Laksono, has called for an evaluation and improvement of the basic military training (latsarmil) programme following the deaths of three participants of the Sarjana Penggerak Pembangunan Indonesia (SPPI) scheme during training. “If anything needs to be fixed or changed, that input must be accepted to perfect the programme so that this initiative, created for the benefit of the nation and society, can truly run well,” Dave stated at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Thursday, 25 June 2026. Dave also expressed his condolences over the deaths of the programme participants. He noted that the implementation of SPPI for prospective managers of the Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih (KDMP) and Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih (KNMP) had actually been preceded by health assessments for the participants. Nevertheless, he believes an evaluation is still necessary as material for future improvements. “This training is very basic. However, it must indeed be designed to be carried out by those with specific physical conditions. This must serve as input so that it can be continuously improved and perfected going forward,” Dave said. Previously, the Ministry of Defence confirmed on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, that two participants of the SPPI KDMP and KNMP programme had died while undergoing latsarmil, namely Anisa Muyassaroh and Yonanda Muhammad Taufiq. The Head of the Defence Information Bureau at the Ministry’s Secretariat General, Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, said Anisa, who was undergoing education at Satdik Dodikjur Rindam VI/Mulawarman Balikpapan, died from heat stroke. Meanwhile, Yonanda, who was undergoing education at Satdik Puslatpur Kodiklatad Baturaja, died after experiencing a decline in physical condition on Monday, 15 June 2026, and had received treatment at a hospital. Based on medical examination results, Yonanda was declared dead due to cardiac arrest. According to Rico, all participants had undergone health checks before being declared fit to join the latsarmil. Nonetheless, the Ministry will evaluate the implementation of the education programme to ensure participants can undergo training safely. A day later, on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, the Ministry confirmed another participant had died, namely Novia Rahmadhani Sihotang, a participant of the 2026 SPPI KNMP programme who was undergoing education at Satdik Pusbahasa Kodiklatau Jakarta.
