Three Sidoarjo Regency Civil Servants Suffer Mental Disorders, Face Early Retirement
Three civil servants (ASN) within the Sidoarjo Regency Government, East Java, have been reported to be suffering from mental disorders. They are currently undergoing intensive medical therapy and face the risk of dismissal through an early retirement scheme if medical evaluations conclude they are no longer capable of performing their official duties.
Head of the Sidoarjo Regional Civil Service Agency (BKD), Ahmad Misbahul Munir, confirmed that the three employees are female. The agency is currently awaiting the results of in-depth observations from the authorised hospital’s medical team.
“They are currently in the process of examination and therapy at the hospital. We will see how their condition develops based on the medical evaluation results,” Munir said when confirmed on Wednesday (17/6).
Munir explained that mental health disorders are a serious issue that can affect anyone regardless of profession. According to him, various complex triggering factors exist, ranging from work pressure and social environment dynamics to internal family problems.
To anticipate similar cases in the future, the Sidoarjo BKD is intensifying preventive programmes in collaboration with relevant Regional Apparatus Organisations (OPD). Several strategic measures being prepared include emphasising that a supportive work environment is key to maintaining productivity. A solid teamwork culture is expected to prevent workloads from being excessively concentrated on specific individuals.
Furthermore, Munir reminded civil servants to be able to separate personal matters from official responsibilities. He encouraged all employees who begin to feel severe psychological pressure not to hesitate to seek professional help.
“Building team cohesiveness is important. In work, a person must be able to distinguish between personal problems and official duties,” he stressed.
The Sidoarjo BKD considers early detection a crucial step to prevent mental health disorders from having fatal consequences, both for the career paths and personal lives of the public servants in the region.
