Three shot dead

JAKARTA (JP): Three hoodlums have been shot dead in separate
incidents while trying to escape from the police in North and
Central Jakarta.

The Tanjung Priok police sub-precinct confirmed the shooting
of Yani alias Piyan, 30, on Sunday night near Tanjung Priok
railway station.

Yani, who was involved in several robberies, suffered three
shot wounds in his legs. A resident of Kampung Bahari, Tanjung
Priok district, North Jakarta, Yani is survived by his wife,
Lilis.

Meanwhile, the Central Jakarta Police Chief S.Y. Wenas
confirmed the shooting of Junaedi, alias Jujun, and Hasan, alias
Tompel.

"The police team shot them after they tried to escape,"
officer Wenas said.

Jujun was shot in the back and leg on Jl. Tanah Tinggi and
Tompel was shot in the waist and leg on Jl. Kramat Pulo, both in
Central Jakarta.

Jujun relatives said yesterday, Jujun was arrested on Saturday
while watching a cock fight.

"Although he had been to jail many times, he has never fought
with the police," Jujun's relative said. (04)
