Jakarta, VIVA – The Ministry of Transportation projects that West Java will be the region with the highest number of travellers during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr transportation period. This is in line with the high mobility of the population and the dominance of movement from that region.
Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi revealed that, in terms of destination, the largest flow will be towards Central Java with 38.71 million people, followed by East Java (27.29 million) and West Java (25.09 million).
“The Ministry of Transportation predicts that during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr transportation period, the largest movement of travellers will come from West Java, totaling 30.97 million people, followed by Jakarta (19.93 million) and East Java (17.12 million),” he said in a statement in Jakarta, Thursday, February 26, 2026.
Dudy said that his party had held a Coordination Meeting for the Preparation of the 2026 Eid al-Fitr Transportation, at the Ministry of Transportation’s Central Office, Jakarta, as an effort to strengthen synergy in facing this momentum.
“These figures were obtained based on the results of a national survey conducted by the Transportation Policy Agency (BKT) of the Ministry of Transportation,” he said.
According to the same survey, he estimated that the total population movement during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr transportation period would be 50.60 percent of the Indonesian population, or 143.91 million people. “This is the basis for us to continue preparing for the 2026 Eid al-Fitr transportation in a comprehensive manner,” explained the Minister of Transportation.
Meanwhile, at the district/city level, the origin of the trips is dominated by densely populated areas such as East Jakarta, Bogor Regency, and Bekasi Regency. Meanwhile, the destination is concentrated in districts in Central Java.
The largest origin of population movement in the Greater Jakarta area (Jabodetabek) is Bogor Regency and Tangerang Regency. Meanwhile, the favourite destination province for the people of Jabodetabek is Central Java.
Still based on the same survey results, the Ministry of Transportation noted that the most dominant mode of transportation will be private cars with 76.24 million people, followed by motorcycles (24.08 million people) and buses (23.34 million people). For the routes used, the majority of car users choose toll roads with 50.63 million people, and for motorcycle users, the majority choose alternative routes other than the main routes, with 8.65 million people.
“We urge the public to use public transportation, in order to increase safety, reduce congestion, and reduce the risk of accidents due to high mobility during Eid al-Fitr,” said the Minister of Transportation.
Next is the forecast for the densest transportation hubs during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr transportation, including the densest origin station, Pasar Senen Station with 2.38 million people, and the densest destination station, Yogyakarta Tugu Station with 867 thousand people.
