Three Regional Legislative Members Allegedly Caught in Narcotics Case in Surabaya
The Surabaya City Police are processing eight individuals in a suspected narcotics abuse case through the restorative justice mechanism, three of whom are allegedly members of regional legislative councils (DPRD) in East Java.
Surabaya City Police Head of Public Relations, AKP Hadi Ismanto, stated in Surabaya on Wednesday that this mechanism is being applied because the amount of narcotics evidence found is below the threshold regulated by the Supreme Court Circular (SEMA).
“We are processing these eight perpetrators through restorative justice. We ensure that all processes follow the proper procedures,” said Hadi.
He explained that the eight individuals, identified by the initials F, R, K, N, Ro, U, Ar, and A, were detained in the early hours of Monday (28/9).
Following up on information received, police conducted a raid and found the eight individuals inside a hotel room.
Based on examinations and urine tests, seven individuals were found to have used ecstasy, while N used both methamphetamine (sabu) and ecstasy.
During the raid, officers seized one plastic bag used for methamphetamine, two yellow ecstasy pills, a smoking device, a lighter, and one used cigarette pack used to store the methamphetamine.
During the investigation, officers also discovered that three of the eight individuals detained are suspected to be members of regency-level regional legislatures (DPRD) in East Java.
Hadi emphasised that although the case is being processed through the restorative justice mechanism, all stages of handling remain in accordance with applicable procedures.
“We ensure that all our processes follow the procedure,” he said.
