Three Regional Council Members Not Detained; Family of Dr Icha to Report to National Police Headquarters

The family of the late Dr Eliza Princila Utami Pakaenoni, also known as Dr Icha Pakaenoni, will report the NTT Regional Police’s Joint Investigation (JI) Team to the Directorate of Professional and Security (Propam) at the National Police Headquarters. The family spokesperson, Fabianus Banase, expressed disappointment that three members of the North Central Timor (TTU) Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), who have been named as suspects, have not been detained to date.

The three regional council members are Therensius Lazakar from the Golkar Party, Norbertus Tubani from PKB, and Veronika Lake from PDI Perjuangan.

“We are requesting that this case be taken over by the National Police Headquarters. The family believes there are several aspects of the investigation that need to be evaluated, including matters related to evidence and the construction of the case,” explained Banase during a press conference in Kupang on Wednesday (2/9/2026).

He noted that the family’s legal team in Jakarta is currently preparing documents and evidence to support the legal action at the National Police Headquarters. Additionally, the family has requested a Hearing (RDP) with Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI).

The family hopes that the legal process regarding Dr Icha’s case will be professional, transparent, and free from political interference. Banase also emphasised that the family does not want the case to conclude merely with the naming of suspects.

“This case has become a matter of national attention. We request the attention of the National Police Headquarters so that this matter is handled seriously and thoroughly,” he said.

Nevertheless, Fabianus expressed appreciation for the investigators’ role in designating the three TTU regional council members as suspects. He also expressed hope that another individual allegedly involved in the intimidation case, Maria Mathildis Sau, would soon be named a suspect.

According to Banase, investigators have argued that there is insufficient evidence to support the designation of Maria as a suspect.

“We question why Maria Mathildis Sau has not yet been named a suspect, while the reports and evidence we have submitted are the same as those provided for the other three suspects,” said Banase.
