Three regencies in North Sumatra Province hit by floods
Medan (ANTARA) – The North Sumatra Disaster Management Control Centre (Pusdalops) has recorded three areas in the province, namely the regencies of Tapanuli Utara, Pakpak Bharat and Tapanuli Tengah, being hit by floods. Based on the Pusdalops Sumut report received in Medan on Thursday, the floods occurred on Wednesday (20 May).
Additionally, Pusdalops logged at least eight hectares of paddy fields, four houses, and parts of road access affected by the floods. There were no reported injuries, fatalities or evacuees according to the report.
Regarding Pakpak Bharat, the floods affected one village and one sub-district, resulting in one house and five hectares of agricultural land affected. Pusdalops recorded one household evacuating due to the flood. There were no reports of injuries or deaths.
Meanwhile, in Tapanuli Utara Regency the floods affected five urban villages (kelurahan) across two sub-districts (kecamatan), causing 81 people to evacuate. There were no reported injuries or fatalities.
Sri Wahyuni Pancasilawati, Head of the Emergency Handling, Equipment and Logistics Division of the North Sumatra Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD Sumut), said the report reflects data received by Pusdalops PB Sumut. Yuyun, the familiar nickname, said a range of relief and handling efforts had been undertaken by the two local governments and several policy stakeholders.
Furthermore, BPBD Sumut stated it is coordinating disaster response at the affected sites.
