Three Regencies in North Sumatra Hit by Floods

Three regencies in North Sumatra—Tapanuli Utara, Pakpak Bharat and Tapanuli Tengah—were struck by floods on Wednesday, 20 May, according to data from Pusdalops Sumut. In Tapanuli Utara, the floods affected seven villages and four subdistricts. They also damaged at least eight hectares of paddy fields, four houses, and portions of road access. The report stated that there were no injuries, fatalities or evacuees at that time.

In Pakpak Bharat, floods affected one village and one subdistrict, damaging one house and five hectares of farmland. Pusdalops recorded one displaced head of a family; there were no injuries or deaths.

In Tapanuli Utara, floods struck five urban wards across two subdistricts, forcing 81 people to flee their homes. There were no reports of injuries or deaths.

Sri Wahyuni Pancasilawati, head of the Emergency Handling, Equipment and Logistics division of the North Sumatra BPBD, said the report reflected data received by Pusdalops PB Sumut. Yuyun—her commonly used name—stated that various response measures had been undertaken by the local governments and policy makers, and that BPBD Sumut was coordinating disaster response at the affected sites.
