Three Puskesmas in Sukabumi City to Become New Rabies Centres in June 2026

City Government of Sukabumi, through the Dinas Kesehatan (Dinkes), has expanded the reach of rabies treatment by designating three Puskesmas as additional Rabies Centres. The move is part of the SINAR (Sistem Integrasi Penanganan Rabies) initiative, which will be launched in the first week of June 2026. Previously, treatment for victims of bites from rabies-transmitting animals (HPR) was concentrated at RSUD Al-Mulk. Now the public can access similar services at three strategic sites. Denna Yuliavina, Head of the P2P Division of Dinkes Kota Sukabumi, explained that the three Puskesmas were selected based on location strategy and accessibility, including for residents near border areas. Triwulan pertama 2026 data show the urgency of strengthening this service. A total of 104 animal-bite cases were reported from January to March 2026, indicating a rising trend compared with the same period in the previous year. “Although the bite numbers have risen, we confirm that to date there have been no human rabies cases in Sukabumi City. The Rabies Centre addition is a preventive step so that medical treatment can be provided earlier and more quickly,” Denna said on 18 May 2026. This effort to strengthen health facilities also supports Indonesia’s national target of Rabies-Free by 2030. In addition to medical services, Dinkes continues to coordinate with the Dinas Ketahanan Pangan, Pertanian, dan Perikanan (DKP3) to ensure routine vaccination of pets. Residents are urged to remain vigilant about both pets and wild animals such as dogs, cats, and monkeys, and to report promptly if they observe animals showing clinical signs of rabies in their neighbourhood. Emergency rabies vaccination is carried out for animals transmitting rabies near the incident site. Vaccinations are conducted in several villages around the Camba sub-district. The free rabies vaccination programme for rabies-transmitting animals (HPR) is targeting more than 45,000 animals.
