Three Provinces Offer Vehicle Tax Amnesty and PKB Discounts
Three provinces in Indonesia are holding a motor vehicle tax amnesty. This policy provides an opportunity for the public to pay overdue vehicle taxes without incurring fines. The process for renewing the Vehicle Registration Certificate (STNK) is also simplified under this policy. The following are the three provinces offering vehicle tax amnesty policies up to motor vehicle tax (PKB) discounts in May 2026. Bali Governor’s Regulation Number 53 of 2025 outlines the provision of relief for PKB and Motor Vehicle Ownership Transfer Fee (BBNKB). The details of the discounts are as follows: It is hoped that this policy will ease burdens and encourage residents’ compliance in paying vehicle taxes. Every vehicle owner receives a 5 percent discount on the principal PKB as stipulated in the Central Java Governor’s Decree Number 100.3.3.1/43 of 2026. Some of the relief provided includes: For those wishing to mutate vehicles, they receive a 50 percent discount on fees from 1 April to 31 August 2026. The local government wants its residents to settle vehicle tax arrears at more affordable costs to boost regional income. “The police understand the growing concerns. We assure that we will soon formulate concrete steps so that services continue without burdening the public,” he said, quoted on Sunday (3/5/2026). This regulation will later apply nationally, but implemented in stages to 6 provinces in Indonesia, namely DKI Jakarta, Banten, Central Java, West Sumatra, North Sulawesi, and West Java. However, vehicle owners must be willing to sign a statement that within the next 12 months they must transfer the motor vehicle ownership to their own identity.
