Three Provinces Compete to Host 2029 National Farmers and Fishermen Week

Three provinces—North Sumatra, Lampung, and North Sulawesi—have officially submitted their candidacies to host the 18th National Farmers and Fishermen Week (PENAS) in 2029. The announcement was made during the Main Assembly of the National Leading Farmers and Fishermen Contact (KTNA) in Gorontalo Regency on Friday.

Muhammad Yadi Sofyan Noor, General Chair of KTNA Nasional, stated that selecting the host for PENAS XVIII is the primary agenda of the assembly. “This Main Assembly has a crucial agenda: determining the candidate host for PENAS XVIII in 2029. The decision will be reached through deliberation and voting by KTNA representatives from all provinces,” he said.

Yadi explained that while six provinces initially expressed interest in hosting the event, only North Sumatra, Lampung, and North Sulawesi have completed the administrative requirements by submitting official candidacy letters to the national KTNA board. The final host will be determined through a vote involving 38 provincial KTNA administrators from across Indonesia.

The Main Assembly was officially opened by Gorontalo Vice Governor Idah Syahidah Rusli Habibie at the University of Gorontalo hall. PENAS serves as a periodic national forum for farmers and fishermen to exchange experiences, develop agricultural technology, and strengthen institutional capacity. Gorontalo itself was selected to host PENAS XVII after securing support from 17 provincial KTNA chapters during a vote held in Padang, West Sumatra, in June 2023. The 17th edition is scheduled to take place in Limboto, Gorontalo, from 20 to 25 June 2026.
