Three prisoners still at large
DILI, East Timor: Police appealed yesterday to three convicts
who escaped last month from the Becora Correctional Facility to
turn themselves in, promising that, like seven other escapees
before them, they would be well treated.
East Timor Police Chief Col. Andreas Sugianto made the appeal
after one convict turned himself in on Saturday, Antara reported.
Altogether, 10 inmates broke out of the correctional facility
following an uprising that left one convict dead and dozens of
others people, including guards, injured. Two prisoners were
apprehended the day of the riot and four prisoners the following
day.
The latest inmate to turn himself in was identified as Ipoleto
da Silva. He had turned to a friend in Dili, who in turn informed
the police, Andreas said. (emb)
