The Jakarta Provincial Health Office (Dinkes) has recorded three positive cases of hantavirus within the capital. Additionally, six suspected cases of hantavirus have been identified in Jakarta.

The Head of the Jakarta Provincial Health Office, Ani Ruspitawati, stated that while three positive cases have been confirmed, all three individuals have recovered. “However, there are six suspects whom we are continuing to monitor as of today,” she said in the Meruya area, West Jakarta, on Monday (18/5/2026).

According to Ani, the office has issued a circular to all healthcare facilities across Jakarta to increase vigilance regarding hantavirus cases, following directives from the Ministry of Health. Furthermore, the Health Office has designated several regional public hospitals (RSUD) in Jakarta as sentinel hospitals to provide stricter monitoring, ensuring that any spread of the virus can be detected rapidly.

“Additionally, there is a rapid response team continuously implementing an early warning system in the event of a significant increase in cases,” Ani added.

She also urged the public to maintain clean and healthy lifestyles. Residents are advised to keep their environments clean, noting that the virus is transmitted from rats to humans. “Hantavirus is transmitted via rats, so caution is particularly necessary when cleaning areas where there are indications of high rat populations. Vigilance is required,” Ani concluded.
