Three policemen sacked
JAKARTA (JP): City Police Chief Monday officially dismissed three officers and demoted two others for military violations.
Maj. Gen. Hamami Nata said the sacking and demotion of the officers was part of the police's crackdown on undisciplined members.
These measures were in line with the police's principle of reward and punishment, Hamami said at a ceremony at the City Police headquarters.
"Dismissal or demotion is the last resort we make to maintain police discipline and integrity," he said, stressing that those demoted or dismissed should learn their lesson and turn over a new leaf.
The three discharged policemen were 2nd Sgt. Dedy Cahyadi of the headquarters detachment unit, 2nd Sgt. Suherman of the traffic department, and 1st Sgt. Juliansyah of the Central Jakarta police precinct.
Juliansyah did not attend the ceremony yesterday. An official source said the police were still looking for Juliansyah who has been in hiding for some time.
No information about the three officers' misconduct was available. But the three men were sent to the military tribunal prior to their dismissal and one of them, Dedy, was imprisoned for four months.
The two demoted officers were Sgt. Maj. Suharto of the North Jakarta police precinct and Chief Sgt. Mardiyem of the headquarters identification division. The two officers' were demoted one rank. (04)
